Q:My son wants to play baseball too. Can he play baseball and join lacrosse? A: Yes. However it is expected that when there is a conflict lacrosse will be the player's priority. The game requires consistent practice and conditioning. All players benefit from working with the same players on a consistent basis. Due to the round robin format, it is important that all players be present.
Q: Can I request my child to be on the same team as a friend? A: No. Consistent with the mission of the Capital District Youth Lacrosse League, we try to balance all teams by ability. Because of the volume of requests, it is impossilbe to honor all requests while maintaining balance across all teams. Car pooling should rarely be a problem because the teams will practice at the same location.
Q: Do you have equipment available to rent? A: No. Look for used equipment on the Swap Shop section of this website as well as Play it Again Sports store on Rt. 7 in Latham. In addition, we are hoping Breakaway Sports will be offering beginner packages again this year.
Q: Where are the games? A: Home games are at either Goff Middle or Columbia High School. Away games are at different towns throughout the Capital District. Travel during the week will be kept to a minimum.
Q: Where are practices held? A:Goff Middle School or Columbia High School. Pee Wees (1st/2nd grades) practice at the Green Meadow Elementary School.
Q: Do the Pee Wees play games? A: No. The focus of this program is on skill development.
Q: Can my player use a long pole? A: Not at the 3rd-6th grade levels. The emphasis is on proper footwork and positioning when teaching defense at these levels.
Q:My child wants to play goalie. Do I need to purchase additional equipment? A:No. Each team will have a throat guard, chest protector and goalie stick available; however, goalies must always wear a cup.
Q: Can I register my child without a US Lacrosse membership? A: No. Without a membership there is no insurance on your child, and without a valid insurance policy we cannot use the school fields.
Q: If I live outside of the East Greenbush School District can my child participate? A: No. Membership is limited to residents of the East Greenbush School District. However, please contact the program coordinators to see if an exception can be made.
Q: What equipment do I need to provide for my son or daughter? A: Boys grades 3-6: Helmet, mouth guard, shouder pads, elbow pads, gloves, cleats and a lacrosse stick. Athletic cups are mandatory for goalies and strongly recommended for all others.
Girls grades 3-6: Goggles and girls lacrosse stick.
Boys and girls grades 1-2: regulation lacrosse stick. Your coach may have you cut it a little shorter than it is when you buy it. Check with your coach at the first practice.
Q: My child has the ability/want to play at a higher age level. Can he/she play on another team? A: No. While we want to challange each player, insurance and CDYLL regulations do not allow us to have children play outside their age/grade level. Moreover, the Columbia Youth Lacrosse program does not want to be in the difficult position to arbitrarily make decisions on the movement of players outside of their appropriate grade levels. Please visit the clinic and camp section of our website for informaiton on additional activities for your player.
